Executive dysfunction tip!!
Sometimes I get stuck, lying in bed or sitting somewhere or whatever, and I know I need to do something, get up, get dressed, etc., and if I try to get my whole body to move at once, I just kinda… tense up? And still not move.
So I figured out: if I want to get up, move, etc., I’ve got to get one part unstuck at a time. So I usually think to myself something like:
“If I can wiggle my toes, I’m not stuck.”
Then i wiggle my toes.
“If I can flex my foot, I’m not stuck.”
Then I flex my foot.
And usually by the time I flex my feet, the rest of my body gets the memo, and I have voluntary movement again!!
Hope this helps
Check in with your body! I’m living with chronic illness.
I thought I had trouble switching tasks, but what I really have is mobility problems related to blood pressure, muscle weakness, and chronic pain.
Switching tasks when I was seated in the same place isn’t an issue at all, but having to stand up and move somewhere else to do a task is really difficult for me.
For years I had doctors tell me that it was an ADHD problem, where they failed to be accountable for my physical health.
